Rudeness due to social distancing

One of my pet hates is rudeness. Ever since social distancing has come in, rudeness seems to be on the increase in stores.

This afternoon, I went to my local shop. There was a chap at the counter and due to the markings on the floor, I stood six feet away from him. Unfortunately, some other customers wanted to go behind me, due to the confined space, I had to move slightly so they could pass. As the chap at the counter was leaving, he turned to me and said "You should be six feet behind me, you" and walked out.

Then to top that, a young girl pushed in in front of me. She could clearly see that I was waiting and I could only look on in disbelief. The young woman, who is also a neighbour, serving behind the counter said that she is sick of people like them.

I'm trying to do everything right, and bozos like this take advantage.

I know it's only a small thing, but things like this really annoy me.

Does anyone else feel the same?

  • Hi, thanks for sharing. I completely agree. Even before the coronavirus lockdown, I noticed a lot of impolite people in shops and supermarkets. Some people have pushed past in front of me in the queue on a couple occasions. In my head, I sort of play out a scenario where I tell off the person but in reality I just stand there speechless at the rudeness and simply let it go. Later that day, I dwell on the experience and then let it go again. I've never been the sort of person to rise to conflict and would rather remain quiet and only diffuse a situation through logical thinking when necessary. (Can anyone relate to that?)

This lockdown is bringing out the true nature of some people who would normally have common courtesy or be polite. The panic buying segment of this crisis left me speechless at how mean some people are.

Not been on the forum for a little while but I hope everyone is doing OK during this lockdown?

  • I'm apparently okay to go out now so I'm heading to shops tomorrow. We couldnt get supplies online so need quite a bit. In dreading it but at the same time I'm relieved to get things to keep us going

  • That's great. Venturing out after being stuck indoors for a week is something to look forward to right now. Online shopping is really competitive, isn't it? The few things I wanted was also unavailable online. I'm just glad I can drive now and have a bit more independence. Relying on a bus with a weekend service schedule on a weekday and carrying 4-6 large bags of groceries is not my idea of fun.
