After five years of trying, and lots of frustration, a company has finally decided to give me a full time paid job, after an eight week voluntary placement.

Congrats to you CaliforniaDreamer. Placements are a great way for people to get their foot in the door and prove themselves, I don't know why more employers don't embrace the idea.
