  • To quote someone's message, first select/highlight the relevant text, and then use the Quote button that appears
  • To "mention" someone, type @ followed by the start of the forum name, and choose from the list; that person will get a notification of being mentioned

Disambiguating Cynosure

...So, I try to access a certain Thread, and after being forced to sign on, THIS comes up instead.

NOT happy. Disappointed

"Moderation" is usually good, keeping away genuine Trolls and Spam... but is this the start of a new thing?... "Moderation" which is unexplained, sudden, hidden... NAS Please lock the Thread, or just delete it and explain why, somewhere. Do not start to do this.

    Thank you for sharing your concerns about this.

    If a post receives a large number of reports by members of the community it is automatically hidden until it is reviewed by moderators (showing the screen you have seen instead of the content). This is in order to remove potentially distressing content from view until a moderator is able to intervene, as moderators are not present on the forum 24 hours a day, and until recently were not available at the weekend.

    Occasionally if the situation is more complex it can take longer to review, and we may not always be able to discuss this publicly.

    This system is not new and cannot be changed by moderators - my apologies that I cannot give a firm timeline of when this was put in place. 

    I hope that this clarifies a little why this screen is showing.

  • could it be because the site just sent out a whole bundle of notifications from several days' worth of posting, and some of the chats don't exist in the same state any more ? I got some notification dots that led to nowhere - or to threads that were so long, I couldn't even figure out who had written something, and gave up
