Last Year, at a Theatre in Dun Laoghaire - just South of Dublin - I saw the original Home Alone movie for the first time - I lived such a sheltered life as a kid I wouldn't even go to the Cinema.
Looking back at the year I had since then, I can see how much the film helped me cope on my own. It's a survivalist film. It teaches children how to be resourceful. I even made a joke about how kids that age now would eat detergent.
Last year, I had a huge mouse problem and was none-the-wiser trying to catch the blighters. Now, I'm keeping up with my housework much better. The mice have gone away. And my cleaner has taught me about spinning the laundry after washing them.
Also, giving up the car and walking to take public transport has meant that I've lost weight. I'm now below twenty stone for the first time in almost ten years. Again, I have become more proactive.
Now, I can look back at 2019 and say that it has been life-changing.
