Autism Awareness Day

Hi

I have found out it is Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April.  I struggled to search for this info on the NAS website.  I thought this would be a good thing to highlight to users and suggest they take the opportunity to do something in their community to raise awareness i.e. give out some leaflets, put up some posters off the waad website, put a poem in their local paper or a quote or real life experience.

It is a great opportunity to help increase understanding.

Just  a thought......

  • Okay then - we've got a news story up for World Autism Awareness Day, partly inspired by you Mhairi :)

The link to the page is -

    http://www.autism.org.uk/waad2011

and it lists all the events we currently know about that are taking place around the day. We'd love to hear more and include them, so if you know of something local or national that people are doing, just let us know the details.

Don't worry about publishing private contact details for events, we can either email you or contact the organisations to see how much information they'd like to include.

And, of course, we'd love to know anything people are doing to stand up for autism on the day. Feel free to let us know, whatever it is :)

  • That sounds fantastic Mhairi and is pretty close to what we're thinking.

We've got a bit of running around today to get everything in place but then we should have news about what we are doing, what other people are organising and, like you suggest, places for people to tell us what they are up to for WAAD.

Once we're ready to post about that I might move your discussion to the main area of the forum though - to give as many people as possible a chance to read about what's happening :)
