Tics

My 10 year old grandson always had a vocal tic. Its a sort of click/suck sound and it would go on and on and on. However, we got to the point where we hardly noticed it, it was just a part of him.

Just recently though, the vocal tic has stopped and been replaced by a facial tic.  It is quite severe and very noticable. He has said a couple of times recently that people have commented on his vocal tic and told him to be quiet so I am wondering if he has been trying to stop that but the stress of doing so has brought on the facial tic. The tic doesn't actually bother him at all, he says it feels nice, so in a perfect world he shouldn't have to worry about it, but we know he will start to get problems from other people because of it. At his present school he is unlikely to really have any trouble over it but he goes to secondary school in a couple of years and we are concerned that he might get bullied about it there.

Does anyone have any tips on how we can help him to stop the tic or at least lessen it?

Thanks :o)

  • hi - I've no idea how to stop a tic, altho others may chip in + be more helpful than me.  I'd do some internet research on tics to see if there's useful info there and/or have a word with your gp. a There may possibly be info on the nas site.  Of course you may have already done research, so apologies if that's the case.  bw
