I’m leaving shortly to go to The Big Bead show with my eldest (21) because we’re both into making jewellery. I just wondered what type of shows/conventions/exhibitions other people in here enjoy going to, or would like to go to?

To show how nerdy I am, I'm going to a Star Trek convention next Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it! :D
I also regularly attend Comic Con a couple of times a year and have recently been going to a gaming festival. I also did a small horror convention too. So yeah, I do all the nerdy ones. ^^
That sounds fun! You’ll have to let us know how it goes
What Comic Cons do you usually go to? I’ve been to one Comic Con before, several years ago when my eldest daughter was ‘really’ into twilight! I remember Keeley Hawes was there too, I really rate her as an actress.
Thanks! I will do! ^^
I usually go to MCM Comic Con in Birmingham, been to Manchester a couple of times too. They're always something to look forward to each year. :)
Yeah if you’re going to London soon then it might be worth trying to fit in Camden Market, as I said before, I really think that you’d like it. There’s lots of good pubs and other places to eat there too so it could be a good place to refuel after the Pokemon shop.
Affleck's palace in Manchester sounds good, if I’m ever in Manchester then I’ll have to investigate it.
Playing comic con bingo is a really good idea, especially if you have any time where you have to sit down to recharge for a bit, you can check what characters you have seen so far. Yeah there will definitely be lots of jokers this year!
I don't think I've ever been. I am going to London soon so if I get the chance I could go? We're only going so we can go to the Pokemon shop.
I love alternative markets. I went to an indoor one in Manchester, Affleck's Palace I think it was called. They had all sorts of weird stuff. Things I remember vividly are the picture of Danny DeVito as Yoda and a bong that looked like a willy.
Sometimes me and my sister play Comic Con bingo when we go. Put down cosplays we think we're gonna see and play bingo. It's pretty fun. Maybe we should do it again and put Joker in every box!
Thank you! I still have it upstairs in my jewellery box, I kept all of my jewellery. I still have a thumb armour ring that I used to wear too. Have you ever been to Camden market in London? I think that you'd really like it there, they have loads of shops and stalls selling quirky jewellery and quirky everything really! I used to go there loads, I haven't been down there for a few years though, maybe overdue a visit!
The old train station setting of the Manchester convention seems really cool. I like novel settings like that. I remember back in the early 90's visiting Leeds and they had an alternative market underneath the railway arches. It was the first time that I'd ever been to such a market and I was totally entranced! It was the first time that I ever smelled cinnamon scented josticks, I've loved the smell of cinnamon ever since.
We'll have to swap notes on how many jokers we see at halloween and at your convention. :-) Teamwork makes the dream work as they say.
That spider ring sounds pretty cool! I have lots of animal rings too. They sell a variety of jewellery. Does depend on the individual vendors of course. So you never know what you'll find! ^^
Manchester feels more lowkey. It's crowded as it's a smaller venue, but I like the atmosphere. It's usually in an old train station too which is cool! I think it's only once a year, usually in July.
We used to do a game of count the Doctor Whos. Think we should do it with the Jokers! Maybe with our combined forces we could make something!
Aw I used to love quirky jewellery, but never got beyond anything more interesting than skull and crossbone earrings and a spider ring, the body of which contained a small compartment! Oh and a spiky dog collar! I used to like a lot of chunky silver jewellery. Your earrings seem quite individualistic, what other types of jewellery do they sell there?
That's really good that you have lots of friends and family to go with. Definitely a good idea to arrange a meeting point for a certain time, with such large crowds, someone's bound to get split off from the group!
The London Comic Con was very commercial! What's the Manchester one like?
I think there might be quite a few jokers around this Halloween, I might have to get my red contact lenses out to try to scare them off! I'm the opposite, I'm practical but not particularly artsy or creative, except with beads! Your construction hat seems good!
Yeah. I like buying things there too. I buy most of my jewellery at conventions because they're usually quirky and different, which I'm all about. I bought some syringe earrings at my last one!
A lot of my friends and family go too so I usually see them when I go. Although it's a nightmare trying to navigate in a large group. Someone always gets lost. I always give up and just tell people to meet up at a place when done.
Yeah my friend who went said the same thing. A lot less cosplay orientated. I guess because they have all the big guests there it's more focused on that. When I went to Manchester, I noticed it was a lot less commercial than Birmingham, which I liked about it.
I'm sure they will be. I've had my fair share of photos taken with Jokers! I'd love to make a proper costume, but I wouldn't even know where to start! I'm artsy and creative, but not practical. The closest I've got is decorating a yellow construction hat with Japanese writing, which I'll be rocking again in November. ^^
I guess you go more for the atmosphere and the fun?
When I went to Comic Con in London, I don’t remember seeing anyone dressed up, but it was more film/tv show character oriented. I hope that all the jokers in November are friendly! Why not try your hand at making a costume if it’s something that you want to do?
I know a lot of people who go solely to meet guests, but that's never been my thing.
In terms of characters, you see a lot of the 'usual'' ones; Star Wars, Marvel/DC, Alien & Predator, etc. And usually there's that 'one' really popular one each time, so for the one in November I think I'm gonna see a lot of Jokers from the new movie walking around! My friends and I like to guess what it will be each time. I have seen some amazing cosplays over the years and wish I could be as good!
That’s a lot of conventions! What actors/characters have you met/seen at them?
