Getting your own place

In the next few years I'm considering getting my own place to aid my indepence developements and just my general social confidence.

What I want to create in my new house is a Autism Room which would allow me to process the world, because I have unique way of processing world and that by seeing what it feels like to be in someone else shoes, so this room would enable that to take place out of sight of the rest of the house where visitors might see it and think it weird.

Has anyone else with Autism ever rented their first home to progress in life and got unique ways of processing the world.

I would love to find out more about this possiable exciting journey approaching in the next few years.

  • It's called the workshop  OK, I probably do come from one of those families where there are engineers over more than one decade. (I have to try harder than most to get things the way i want them. There is a lot of trial and ..... retrial.) But workshop is a term that can also be used in a more artistic or sensual sense. But you will undoubtedly have your own name for it, if you haven't already said it here. In any case, there is plenty of evidence of my way of doing/creating things everywhere in the house and garden. It is only hidden by the fact I get few visitors anyway. There isn't a huge tradition of house visits in the country where I live. All expats are considered weird here anyway; even when they closely mimic the local NT mode of conduct . The other thing is that public theatrics are not advisable here, as they can easily lead to locals experiencing ' loss of face' and becoming aggressive. So it really is best to keep your thoughts, creations, reactions and actions to yourself in your own space.

One other thing I want to say. The planning laws of the UK are no longer really fit for many of its people's purposes. We have loads of economically-challenged people who really cannot afford to plan and build a dwelling/space that satisfies the planning regs and allows them to live sustainable lives. We really do need a lot more places where people can operate in a simple economic style. And also be able to admit that we are operating within our means, without having to keep up with Facebook social standards. I basically can no longer afford to exist in my area of origin, and the budget is pretty tight here too.
