Do you like performing?

The summer issue of the NAS magazine, Communication (available to all NAS members), will feature people with autism who perform.

If you're a person with autism and like to sing, act, dance, play an instrument or perform in other ways then we'd love to hear from you. And If you support a person with autism who performs then it'd also be good to hear from you

Just let us know about it in this discussion and we'll get in touch by email to your registered address if we'd like to chat about featuring you in the magazine.

  • A few years ago i bought myself a ukulele. I watched them on Youtube and it seemed so easy, even little kids could knock out a tune, But my fingers don't  work. I didn't want to be a superstar, i just wanted to play simple tunes. Though enen if i did learn, i could never get up in public, i hate being the centre of attention.

  • Hi

I would love to be involved with this in any way i can.

I have always loved acting and studied it in school and collage for years.

Being an aspie i found that being on stage and speaking in front of a group of people was one of the best things i could have ever done to help me overcome my social alkward'ness as i found when i had the other actors on stage relying on me so the show wouldent fail, this forced me to overcome my shyness and i ended up loving it.

This i find helped me greatly and if something like this could encourage or help others i would be glad to be involved

    Look for "The Wax Dramatic"

my Son is the Bass player and there are about 4 songs there but the best ones are "Colours" and "Shock".

He was diagnosed with Aspergus earlier in the yearv after basically having a breakdown.

but his music gives him pleasure and the band have played Glastonbudget festival this year and have been played on local radio as well as BBC Radio 6 with Tom Robinson (2-4-6-8 Motorway and War Babies fame).

I,d like to be able to say I taught him everything he knows but that would be a lie.

I taught him a lot, then he just ran with it.

    Enjoy.

    RALPH.

P.S. I,m in the process of being diagnosed as an Aspie and have been an actor and musician all my life.

  • I love performing. I particularly enjoy giving presentations to social workers and other professionals about asperger's syndrome and living with it. I have given two of these presentations so far, for my local autism charity, and I should hopefully be giving another presentation soon for a disability charity. I do not feel afraid at all when I am on stage. Stage-fright is an alien concept for me. Being on stage helps me to feel less anxious because it takes my mind off things. I have to focus on my script, and it makes me feel as though I have a purpose.

  • Hi my name is Jeremy and I am interested in setting up my own karaoke business to raise money to re-open disused airfields - I regularly sing at local karaoke clubs. I have my own karaoke machine. I also take part in a film group - which I enjoy. I made my own short film about my interests in Karaoke and Djing, I am looking for volunteers to help me do small events to raise money using my interests in Karaoke and aviation.
