Living with others - massive mistake..

Hello,

I have recently moved back to Bristol. I read online in a few places that living with other people can really help with social confidence and help you deal with normal everyday life.

In my case, that is totally wrong..

My partner and I live in a nice shared house with 2 other house mates, both male. They are nice enough, very quiet and shy though. In their mid 20s apparently.

My problem is everything they do really annoys me. The fact they eat rubbish food day after day, buscuits for breakfast, take away or pizza most nights. carton after carton of fruit juice ( I think they think thats healthy). One of them is ill all the time, obviously due to their diet.

One of them is pretty stupid really. Him and his girlfriend love all those awful American sitcoms. Laughing out loud and the appauling jokes and slapstick. i have tried to show them good british stuff like Spaced, Thick of It, Man stroke woman, Dark place, Jam, Mighty Boosh and they dont get it at all.

He also drives to work, which is a 10 minute walk. His girlfriend stays over most of the time and he drives her to work too, 20 minute walk away and then picks her up again. he admitted that it takes him longer to drive.....

I clean everyday in the kitchen, they are not that untidy its just things like not wiping down the workstop after preparing food. Or their opinion of what is clean really isnt clean.

My partner and I are the only ones that clean. We left one of bathrooms for a month to see if they did anything and nope, nothing.

They have a real disinterest in making it more homely. One of them has a lot of crap stored around the place. I wanted to make the lounge a proper lounge, Its a tv on a coffee table with crap piled around the place. I hate it down their becuase I cant stop thinking about how it should be so I stay in our room mostly.

Its strange becuase on the face of it they are nice people but just quite dumb and are severely lacking in life experience.

I think the best thing is for us to leave and get a 1 bed flat in the area. The problem is how much that costs.

Does anyone else have any experience of house/flat shares? Did it go well for you?

noo no no, most people have to really work to live with another person, but ESPECIALLY when you have autism

its typical young people will do that especially guys (sorry guys but i can tell you from experience nt guys not that bothered about cleanliness or housework)

autistics living with neurotypicals is a LOT of HARD work, but i can tell you, its from BOTH sides

i have my problems with my partner, he wont do the housework, he has a huge pile of papers at his side of the bed,( and i dont mean a nicely stacked pile, i mean they are lierallt scattered everwhere on his side, with clothes on top and whatever else lands there ) which pi*ses me off and he knows it , he overfills the bin and i have to deal with it, as he usually just keeps piling things in it

but, at the same time, i have my problems too that bother him, like i constantly move things , lose them, and dont put lids back on things and the couch is always filled with my rubbish (which he then moves on to my side where im gonna sit ggrrrrMoney Mouth)

living with other people is always a bit of work and can affect how you feel about them or people in general, even if you are brilliant friends/love them

  • I've only just recently started living by myself.

And it's a mixed bag really - on the one hand all the space in my flat is mine to do want I want with, on the other hand, if there's a spider in the flat I am the one that has to deal with it (just as an example (and, I can't stand spiders)).

But, yeah, not having other people's habits to annoy me is a blessing.

  • I've done it too and I hated it. Not doing it again, ever.
