Has anyone been to a NAS buddy group?

No specific details of groups - e.g. location held or members details.

I've just joined the Newcastle upon Tyne group, I got an invitation to the meet-up this month (it would have been my first) but I decided not to go because it was an outing so a new place I think it would have been a bit too much for me right now.

I'm worried about going in general, I hope no one finds this offensive and understands what I mean when I say; I worry that others in the group won't be like me. I used to pass for an NT, this doesn't apply anymore as I'm regressing a lot due to unemployment, but I'm still not what I'd consider severe.

I also wonder what people in such groups do, what is normal - I loved that the letter inviting me to this months meetup gave some information about how much money to take, it's little details like that and how to behave that make going to such meetings or events so much more aniety-inducing

I'm just trying to get a grasp of what to expect to make it a little easier for me to go along. Anyone else able to share a little information about their experiences in such groups, how they've found them, are they as you expected?

  • Hi Bloodheart,

I too am new to the NAS scene, only recently diagnosed and wondering where I fit in. I have the same worries as you, I have sent the e-mail to ask to join my local group but am still wondering if I will.

So anybody out there willing to talk us through it?
