First snow of winter

This is the view across the valley after the first snow fall. It snowed more heavily later so we have 4-6 inches now. We think it is the first time Izzy our dog has been able to play in the snow. She was scared of it to begin with but then started running around at top speed. 

More snow than me.  And today my snow is almost completely gone.

I was surprised because the weather forecast only predicted light snow showers to begin with in our area of NE England. It came out of nowhere - really large flakes like feathers. Poor garden birds have been looking miserable -  fortunately I had stocked up with bird food before the snow fell. It's that fantastic powdery creaky snow, so good to walk on when it is fresh. I haven't attempted to drive down the steep bank to the village - it's very icy. I quite like the feeling of being cocooned in snow like cotton wool!

That is much more realistic. I took the photo on my iPad in low light which may explain the blue tint!
