What makes us happy or helps us

Hi Everyone!

It occurred to me whilst typing what annoys me in response to another thread that it might be good to share what we find helpful in handling our autism and autistic traits and what makes us happy, if we can feel happy at all.

Well as I said in the other thread - chocolate gives me a good feeling and when my head is full and I'm hitting a meltdown, Mum drives me to a big beach or up on to the Moors near where we live and the space and bleakness somehow calms me down - it's like all the stuff in my head gets lost in the space and after a few hours I come back down pretty well.

Also, nature for me, talking to animals because I feel they understand me better than humans ever could.

So what helps you or makes you happy?

  • I find it very hard spending money, particularly on abstract things, such as holidays, haircuts, travel etc. I find it easy buying good food because it is needed and it brings pleasure. I like buying new clothes, but hardly ever buy clothes because I prefer spending my money on food!. I am getting better at spending money on other objects, but still have to keep to a very strict budget even though I am not skint and could easily afford to spend more. The problem is psychological. Money is abstract and it scares me, and I have always struggled with maths
