  • National Banks are not really banks in that sense though - they're more like regulators, and often are little more than an arm of the Government.

    Also, QE isn't really just like creating more money, in an entirely artificial sense - the central bank buys financial assests using money it creates, but those financial assests must, in some sense, exist, in order for them to be bought.

    And it's not national debt that it eases - it eases private debt, by injecting money into the economy - i.e. into the pockets of private banks and/or corporations - it does not lower the money the country owes to others.
