Losing my bunnies

I've not written for a while. But tonight i really need a friendly ear if possible.

I've just one of my bunnies put to sleep. I've never had a pet euthanised before. It was hard. Mary was a rescue bunny. We don't know her age or much about her except she was very underweight when we had her and had been dumped somewhere. She started going downhill Friday when she smelt of wee and had obviously become incontinent.

Today she was rushed vets as she couldn't put her back leg down or stand much and her right eye wouldn't open. She also still smelt and i tried bathing her again but she was obviously uncomfortable with it. The vet said she was very underweight and pale in her eyes and then found a mass in her stomach/chest area. He was very kind about it and Mary fell over whilst there and i knew she couldn't live like that.

She was put to sleep at 4:25pm today. And will be buried peacefully near her old friend Twitch who died in March.

I'm an emotional wreck but know she couldn't suffer. I hope she knows how much she was and always will be loved.

Miss you Mary. Love you girly.

Snuggles and nose twitches from Mummy. xxxx

  • Hello AnneMargaret,

and commiserations.  I know how much you love your bunnies. I believe that nothing and no-one really dies until we cease to remember them so, for you, Mary will live pretty much forever.  You gave another living creature your love, which is the whole purpose of living, and I don't doubt you will go on to love others - sadly, there will always be creatures needing rescue.

    Take care of yourself.

    Warmest best wishes,
