A musical trip down memory lane

I have always had really strong memories of when I was a child. Every Sunday we would take a trip to our local air base and watch the planes come in and out followed by a drive over the nearby heath. This was always accompanied by the UK Top 40 on Radio 1, medium wave, we're going back to the 80's here.

If I hear a song from that time I can recall with clear accuracy where I was, the light levels, the air, the time of year. It's almost like I am actually connecting with the little boy I once was or vividly reliving those moments. Sometimes it's so strong that I'm physically paralyzed briefly.

Music has always been incredibly important to me and it's been a part of my life at every moment.

Moving on into the 90's, the teenage ages, I can still recall those momments, events, sights whenever I hear songs from that time.

I was looking through the chart lists today for 1986. I felt, smelt, tasted all those places, events, memories, songs.

Not sure if it has anything to do with ASD. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Greetings. This is a common matter, experienced by almost all persons, nothing to do with ASDs, and likely the only persons who do not experience it are properly Deaf people. (Seriously, there.)

Music, sounds, smell and taste all can evoke strong memories.

This is true. To do with "how the brain works" and, well, stuff like that, and so it it is certainly not yourself, "dazahomstead"...

To end this Post upon a personal story, I am (or used to be) an avid reader, of books, magazines, info-sheets, and whatnot... I used to read them at home, on the Buses, on Trains, at Stations, Anywhere...

...THIS next, may be an ASD thing however: I often feel queasy upon Buses of late; and so I had to stop my ever Reading things upon Buses, because whenever I tried to re-access what was read in my mind, I would feel queasy and smell Petrol or Pollution or hear Gossiping people as I did so! (No joke...!)

...If not that, then there are a lot of other Threads about "Music" already. But what I say here is just myself, maybe...

  • Interesting. Maybe it's just the social group I grew up with but whenever I would mention it, people just didn't seem to understand so therefore I assumed that the majority of people didn't experience it in the same way, or they found it too trivial to bother considering
