Struggling to find reading material.. Recommendations welcomed..

Hi all

Would really appreciate some suggestions as I'm feeling a bit stuck ..

My son is nearly 10, and loves reading, however, I'm struggling to find books that make sense to him... He has just finished reading the HarryPotter books which he was reluctant to start but then raced through and loved.  Does anyone know of another series for older readers that might challenge him but still be suitable? He loves fantasy and magic but abstract language quickly frustrates him :s !

  • My son is also nearly ten and we have been through the same. There are some great suggestions already, but two we found are great for age and understanding were, the Percy Jackson books and the Artemis Fowl range.

Both of these are easily available and kept him interested throughout, also we didn't have any problems with misunderstanding the content.

I would be careful to introduce Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy yet due to content and the Dark is Rising is very good, but can be slow and not easy to understand at times for a 9 year old.

    I hope this helps Smile
