Collecting

I was just wondering if anyone else collects things like I do.
I have collected all my life.
I'll start to collect something and get totally obsessed with it
and collect as many as i can of whatever it is i cant think of anything else.

A few of the things Ive collected:
Stickers
shells
snow babies
disney pins
vinylmatons
beanie baby's
yankee candle labels
trading cards
books
bits of pencil lead (yes i know some of these are odd)

what have you collected?

  • Now that you mention it I suppose I collect books,

never really thought about it but I never throw books away and have ended up with lots of them.

  • I like collecting information, but I find it fun; a welcome escape from the chaotic world. I am currently reading a book on the history of Utopia as an idea.

  • Round peebles(looking for the perfect sphere) and stones with patterns in them,

Paperwork from 20 years ago (seem to think I need to keep it) just in case some nasty government authority requires it later

I am knowledge collecting freek, any subject, just put a book down in front of me,, and I get lost in new facts..., then it becomes my life for the next few days,,, then I pop back up confused in this world,  strange thing everyone is busy getting on with there lives,, whilst mine stops...., just now it is antihydrogen photon particles and a time machine by developing a chemo-metaray laser. Aspergers is HELL.

My life is information collecting hell. Sorry, I am not pro-collecting,,, it is my hell. I just wished I could be normal and watch TV or listen to normal talk without wanting to run away and hide from the zombies and drones.

    • Collecting fake £1 coins (a lot of them in circulation; we are supposed to hand them to the Police, but they fascinate me and I keep them),
    • Collecting records by Fields of the Nephilim / The Nefilim (aka Carl McCoy),

Cd's, Vinyl records and books. I too like to collect full discography's or everything an author has published.

Same here, in particular Progressive Rock and Sci-Fi.

  • Hi I'm Lauren - I have aspergers syndrome. Nice to meet you.

I used to collect beanie babies as well when I was little! Smile The ty toys that they used to give away with the happy meals in mcdonalds - I still have some at home and I still think they are adorable. I used to have furbies and collect shelbies from mcdonalds too. I also used to collect marbles and pogs! ( the disc things like the ones mentioned on the simpsons)

I recently had a phase when I collected items which had hello kitty on them, despite being 21 years of age. I have a small toy,  large plushie, badges, stationery, stickers and many other things. But now I don't seem to collect things as much as I used to.Frown

Hi Muckworm - I too have an interest in wildlife and am going to the Natural History Museum soon to see the exhibitions and I also subscribe to bcc wildlife magazine, where I pick up lots of random facts! Smile

  • I sort of collect stuff too.

None of it's ever really very 'organised'.

And it's usually what ever I'm currently interested in or in to.

So, for example, I have a huge (way too huge) collection of Magic The Gathering Cards because I was into that like about 15 years ago.

And I like to buy, and read, all the books by which ever author I'm currently in to (have a lot of Stephen King from 20 odd years back (all that he'd written upto the point I stopped reading them), and more recently Iain (M) Banks (have read, and own, all his Sci-Fi novels (unless he's brought out a new one very recently), and am now working my way through his non-Sci-Fi), and William Gibson (again, have read and own all the novels he's written (also unless he's brought out a new very recently)))

Also have a small collection of metal (and some plastic) Warhammer 40K Cadian Imperial Guardsmen, and will probably look at making a small collection of another figure range soon (as I've nearly completed the Cadian collection (or at least of those that aren't nigh on impossible to get hold of)).

  • Hi there!

I collect but in a different way - I love nature and birds and stuff and I collect them.

I keep a written log of all the birds, insects, reptiles, frogs, mammals (except pets) that I see each day. I love doing this and it relaxes me and I've learned loads over the years about migration, hibernation and living habits. I currently have a bees nest for the first time in my garden and have been so excited by watching the bees and counting them!

So I think that is a collection, of sorts and over 30 years it is now quite sizeable Smile

I also like classical music and have 900 CD's and I like different recordings of the same pieces so that's a collection too.

Your collections sound interesting - I think collecting is a joy in my life and one of the few things that makes me smile.
