  • I too have a fascination of clocks, I have many types, a grandfather clock, a grandmother clock many that are in domed cases with the weights that swing round one way and back the other,

Here is the strange thing though, I love clicks and clockwork,,, but I have no concept of time? I always think I have plenty of time but it passes so quickly, I cannot guess how long it takes to drive or travel somewhere, And at the risk of being frog marched out of here Lol, I am always late,,, at work my boss took to calling me the doctor, he said I turn up whenever I feel like it, do my job and leave when I am ready too, I do hang about later than anyone else, I just can’t compete with all the other men getting back just before end of day competing with each other to report the day or receive new orders for the following day,

If I try I cannot focus with everyone talking about things rarely connected with work, I become over whelmed and I can’t take in what’s being said or get my words out. My brain shuts off , so I prefer to wait, it goes very quite as they all try to get away before time, I can then relax, talk about the days work and progress, or find out what’s in the following day,

Even as a child I would hang about in the mornings to avoid going in, I knew I would be told off for being late, so the later it got the worse I felt, often I got so stressed out I would not go in, skiving it was called.

So I like clocks a lot, have many, but time is my enemy,,, To be fair the last few months I seem to be able to wake before my alarm goes off, often the dog wakes me up wanting to go outside, but it feels strange being able to wake up by myself, all my life I have been shouted at to get up and get ready, just for me to roll over and go back to sleep.

  • That's interesting but not surprising - one thing I am beginning to realise is just how diverse and contradictory autism is. Although fastidious about punctuality I can easily get it wrong. We went to see a film on a wet Saturday. It did not occur to me other people would have the same idea. We ended up in a massive queue and we were nearly late. I had a mini meltdown when we could not find our seats in the dark. It did not help that I was trying to carry handbag, popcorn, tacos...

Often I start getting ready really early then I get distracted so I end up nearly being late! Dogs are the best alarm clock. Much more friendly than the digital type. I have a sunrise alarm with a light which gradually gets brighter which means I'm usually half awake when the buzzer sounds. Horrible noise!!!!!
