Our 16 year old son has put himself through a difficult day. First day at college and he got too stressed and walked out. We have only just found this out as we were expecting him back home about 5.30pm but he has been wondering about for hours without calling us and then finally gets to his nana's around 9pm!! At least we know he is safe but its so worrying. We just don't think he is ready for college yet. His anxiety is so high at the moment with anger and ourbursts and his OCD is making him so tired. Just not sure how to help him.
Hi Hope5,
You are going through a difficult time. There is information on our website about transition support for young people and support in education. You might like to have a look at the following links:
https://www.autism.org.uk/about/transition.aspx
https://www.autism.org.uk/services/education.aspx
You should also find there information about our Transition Support Service - you can contact the team by phone or email. This is a direct link to the details: https://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/transition-support.aspx
I hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Kerri-Mod
Well we still don't know what happened and college have not contacted me.
Try again tomorrow, and keep in touch via text?
Is there support from the college?
He is under CAMHS atm but don't feel we are making any progress.
I think he needs more help to be able to attend college. I used to hate first days because they were so stressful. But I didn't dare walk out because my parents fury would have been worse...
Does he have a counsellor or someone who helps him with his issues?
