ASD Fun day ideas!

Hi everyone!

I am a volunteer for the NAS and run the Cowes Support Group on the Isle of Wight, my 11 year old daughter has Aspergers and my 4 year old son has HFA.

We are planning a fun day later in the year and I was after a few tips on ASD friendly entertainment!

I went to a fun day last year (not arranged by me!) where they had a magician.  For neurotypical children, he was great but he talked far too much, told tongue in cheek jokes and really went to town with the Punch and Judy show!!  Needless to say, most, if not all, the children with ASD steered well clear of him!  This got me thinking, what exactly IS ideal entertainment for our children on a generic scale?  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

  • We have a local (Watford) indoor adventure playcentre who have an special evening once a month for children with ASD. They have the usual climbing frames, slides, dogem cars, merry go round and a rock climbing wall.   They open for us at 6.45pm until 8.15pm.  All the children seem to love it.

If you have a similar facility locally perhaps it would be worth speaking to the manager to see if he can help or failing that may bouncy castles and the like.
