Please could anyone help. My friends son finished a residential out of borough placement where he was thriving a year ago. He has challenging behaviour some of the time and PDA. Since being back in the home setting in a large city he has been targeted by a gang who have encouraged him to break the law for them. He needs to be away from the city for his own protection. Social care haven’t been very forthcoming. The bottom line is he is entitled to some amount of education till 25 but he copes best when in a rural placement. He loves horticulture and has some qualifications in this. Does anyone know of anywhere in the country that has this kind of provision. His last placement was like supported independent living within the grounds of the school, something similar would suit.
Many thanks
Sounds like a good goal, although you presumably want it to be within easy distance. I have no first-hand experience of this. How about a mainstream agricultural college like Askham Bryan or Bicton? I see Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester has a page on disabilities,
Otherwise, here as an example is Horticap in Harrogate. There must be many country gardens run as charities providing some training for people with mental health problems or disabilities.
