Hello all,
I just wanted to tell about my son's story. We first noticed there was something wrong with our son when he was around 1 years old. As he would pace up and down in his cot, wake up in the middle of the night giggle to himself for hours while staring at his hands. At first I thought oh he must be dreaming but then he started to do it more and more. Around 1.5 years old he started be picky with food , he wouldn't eat anything but plain noodles that went on for over a year. He wasn't able to eat proper solid food until he was 3. That is when he started to understand more and we were able to trick him to try other foods. He is now 5.5 year old and only eats dry, steamed, boiled food with no sauce but at least he eats more then noodles:) Only eats bananas as fruit. I have took him to the doctors around when he was 2 yrs old because he had speech delay, that's where it all started! Dr send us to see the pediatrician! From there we had hearing tests and eye tests done. Everything was fine! We started speech and language therapy, he still sees the therapist but he is much better. He can talk when he wants to when I thought he wouldn't talk at all. We started potty training at 3.5 yrs old and that went on for a year, he still wet his bed today if I don't get him up
He has sensory issues like doesn't want to put some trousers on or he hates dressing up. He was obsessed with white shoes and wouldn't want to wear anything else but I started to break that habit now as he needs to wear black shoes for school. But now as his feet gets bigger buying new black shoes are becoming a nightmare as he doesn't try them on:( and makes a big fuss in the shops. He has repetetive behaviour. When I put him to bed he paces from his bedroom to the landing for 1.5 hrs until he gets really tired and falls a sleep. While pacing up an down he stares at his hands and moves his head to the side. He does the pacing during the day if he hasn't got anything interesting to do. He is obsessed with the weather and goes on the Ipad to look at the weather updates. He is scared from rain and wind. He is also scared of loud noises. He gets anxious when in the shops and shows His anxiety with running and not listening to us. So we have to keep a good eye on him as he can just disappear. He doesn't like to get out of the house . Even going to the playground is a Problem, sometimes I push him to go as he enjoys it once we are there. It's just the getting outside of the house bit which makes the anxiety and unknown of the destination. He doesn't line up at school and has social interaction issues. Tends to play on his own or alongside others but mostly on his own. He is very clever and acedemically doing really well. Reading year 1 books when he is attending early years. The pediatrician at first appointment 3 years ago said he is showing signs of autism but he doesnt think he has it. On second appointment our concerns were still there so he requested for him to have the fragile x test done which came back all fine. On our 3. Appointment which was 2 weeks ago we were so frustrated as he didn't have any updates back from anyone regarding Kaan's situation. We were still discussing the letter from his speech therapist which we already discussed at our 2. Appointment back in 2011. What a waste of time when you wait for this appointment for a year and to come to see his pediatrician doesn't have a clue:( This time we stand up for our son and finally the pediatrician said he would make an appointment with the speech therapist and the psycologist to make the diagnose. I have received a letter 5 days ago from the speech therapist saying that she thinks our son has the ASD but yet this is to be agreed by the pediatrican and psycologist. Now he is having some problems at school but I will create a new discussion on that as this is already too long
thanks for reading and please comment and ask questions if you want to.
