What interests you?

Hello,

I'm new here and thought I'd try to get to know people by finding out more about you individually, if that's okay?

So I'm really into animal behaviour. Having previously been a vet nurse it always fascinated me & was obviously a big part of my job so that was a bonus. As a result I have pets... currently 2 house rabbits and a lovely gerbil.
I'm also into motorbikes... having grown up around them I just love to be around them & riding them.

So what interests you?

  • The wing venation of wasps.I can idetify most wasps by the wing pattern alone and it gives me immense satisfaction to do so.I can identify fossil wasps in amber by their wing venation. My favourite was a mutillidae wasp .... i adore wasps.

  • That's brilliant, I have problems telling the difference between wasps and bees.

Have you got photos of the ones you have seen it a list or samples or are they in your memory?

  • Bees ,wasps and ants are all related and basically bees are hairy wasps with thicker hind legs to accomadate the pollen .... but some solitary bees do look very similar to wasps and are often mistaken for wasps ... oh i just love them ... dont know why but the patterns on the wings are just so fascinating.I dont really have any photos but i have many specialist books, ''Handbooks for the identification Of British Hymenoptera...''.... i used to have lots of wasps in amber but sadly i went through a phase of .. how shal i put it .. wiping the slate clean and threw all my belongings in the bin .... boy it felt good but i guess i regret it sometimes, but hey no complaints.Oh and i do memorise wing venations as easily as say ... i dont know ... erm as easy as.... got in a loop here.....    very easily..... i think i am fascinated by flying things because i love EARLY aeroplanes aswell , but not as much as wasps.Thank you very much for your reply and i really hope you have a lovely evening.....

  • I love to watch bees on our lavender plants. I think they are bees but if you look at them closely you can see that there are lots of different looking ones. I don't know much about wasps though, sorry.
