Access to Work

I have a part time job, which I am struggling with.  Today somebody suggested that I should apply for help from the DWP's Access to Work scheme.

Are any of you familiar with this "Access to Work" scheme?  If so, what is your opinion of it, please?

  • I had a workplace assessment.

The employer decided to ignore most of the recommendations.

It is very difficult to for me focus there. So many distractions. I just gave up. I simply do the absolute minimum, stay in the background, keep the low profile.

It is impossible for me to achieve my full potential there.

I do not see a way out from this situation.

    This is horrible!

This is a great problem with any scheme like this.

However much right may be on your side (and it is!) if your employer decides to ignore it, they are relying on you not wanting to challenge them.  You can challenge your employer in a chain of processes (grievance procedure, appeal, early concilliation, employment tribunal) but that can be very stressful and take a long time for all the processes.

I might add that apparently no employer has actually yet managed to successfully challenge the adjustments recommended by access to work in an employment tribunal and win.

I feel the same as you, my employer is very much wanting to get rid of me, but at least I did get the adjustments recommended.  Like you I very much feel 'caged' and cannot achieve my potential at all.
