P.S. - I might point out that some of us - me, at least (!) - do not actually know what this means. We have no way of knowing who is online at the time or not. However, you do not need to explain this, as I can understand that it is different accross different machines.

...Glad Tidings, this is me, "not chatting" again...(!) With regards to the Quoted thing, there, you might have visited a Thread at the same time as someone else... But - I acknowledge that you could be correct, and so if you are really that curious, try visiting a really old/forgotten/obscure Thread, and see if you can count it up that way. I admit that I could be wrong, yet WebPM would give a final answer, and obviously I am not WebPM...

And I would say that if I keep visiting a thread each time it does actually count me up one more time, I did it once to check. 

I am however pleased that you took the trouble to start this thread as it has proved that unless we or you keep on telling them nothing gets noticed, we spend a considerable amount of time here, well I do anyway, so I do notice things, it is my way to spot things that are incorrect or not quite perfect, my nature is thus.

Also glad that you have had your voice heard and action has been taken to remedie a long standing issue of vanishing pictures, we are unofficial NAS operatives regards maintence issues ( joke).

When "A Single User" has viewed a page, it is supposed to count that *once*, and if you revisit, then it does not count that User again... at least, that is as far as I myself understand it. (To stop persons from rising the popularity of a Thread by just repeatedly visiting it.)

Thank You - yet another discrepancy to add to the list here?? But the worst in my view is still the "Disappearing Posts" palaver. And not in my view (literally) the "Notifications" business.

Can I now suggest a new issue has arisen, although it doesn’t cause me any issues as such it may be an indication of the problems that  exhist and may cause issues with email notifications.

If you go to the main forum page you will see many topics, some are new, if you look at the replies part and see six or whatever you may also see zero views,? So no views? Also some have twenty odd or so subscribers! But no views? 

Pit msy not be related to email notifications but is still a malfunction.

thank you for your continued vigilance and help in sorting out what sometimes are hard to see issues.

An update regarding missing images. For the problem of images being posted and then disappearing afterwards, we believe that we have identified a software bug. This is fixed by a patch available from the suppliers. We are planning to apply the patch. That is designed to prevent any more images from vanishing. I do not yet have a time-scale for this, but obviously we will do it as soon as possible.

We are trying to recover the images that are already missing. This may or may not be possible. I'll post updates when we have them. Apologies for any inconvenience or confusion that this has caused.

I'll look separately at the notifications issue, not least because there is a thread for that.

(Later edit: sorry, but we have been unable to recover the missing images. Our backups are designed to protect the messaging database in the first instance. This problem is rather untypical for a forum, and the affected images are also missing from our backups.)

(Only for myself, perhaps, this was a useful thing to add. I had thought that "smilies" - Emojiis? Emoticons? - simply vanished because they were not 'loaded as a keyboard' upon my own *Old* devices... Now I know different, hmmm...?

This reply is not helpful. I checked all these things even before I wrote here.

None of your mentioned things is the case.

The problem is somewhere else. The notification e-mails even do not reach the server since 25/02/2018 22:08 at all.

Excuse me! The aspie quiz thread has many pictures missing. Gone, no longer there, they were not smilies, they were screen captured images or linked results sent from the test as a way of sharing them, 

They were disappearing so quickly which is why I requested people type the figures in as just a picture made no sense once it vanished.

I have had no email notifications since 11:02:2018, despite using the notify me button. I have checked both my junk folder and spam and only one email from last year from a completely different source.

Oh just saw WebPM has replied under my typed response.

I do not know what size my pictures are? I use an iPad, but I find it very strange that pictures I have posted before suddenly are no longer allowed?

Not being able to post pictures whilst in private messages has been an issue for a very long time now.

I happen to chat via PM  to a person who is very knowledgeable and highly qualified when it comes to all things IT. They say no matter how small they have made the image it still will not allow it?

I do appreciate all you are trying to do,,,but I am not very good at instability, sorry I get a bit annoyed at times, 

can I ask why the whole thread with the unauthorised request to join in with a research programme was suddenly deleted?

surely leaving it but without the link or specific details would allow others to see why they should indeed first seek permission. People had replied and it had started to be discussed,

We are quite understanding people, we communicate to allow exchange of views and to help others,  it seems apart from your kind self Things suddenly happen and no explanation given. Bad show that, we are not children,

I have had threads edited and no reason given, That’s another issue but not for here right now.

I wish you well with sorting this out but fear the software is cheap and poorly configured, buy cheap get cheap. Shame as other individually run sites don’t seem to get the same issues? This being the NATIONAL Autistic Society,,of this country is not sending out a very good message.

Resources may need to be thought about as this forum has grown and seems to be gathering more new members all the time.

Thanks for the responses with further details. The pet and quiz threads are really helpful examples, and I've sent them to be investigated. I'm not immediately sure what the issue is, especially as some of the missing images seem just to be smilies.

Lonewarrior's problem with posting a new image (as opposed to viewing previous ones) seems quite different. Could I ask if you know what the image size was? You can get this in Windows by right-clicking on the image in File Explorer, choosing Properties, and using the Details tab. There's a limit of 1MB, which is smaller than most digital cameras produce, for example.

If email notifications are missing, please check your Spam/Junk folder. By their nature, forum messages are sent to numbers of people (everyone participating in the thread). This tends to make them look more like spam to your email provider, so there is a tendency for them to get mis-identified. You could try white-listing the address from which they are sent, which is "National Autistic Society - our Community <info@autism.org.uk>".

Where are the e-mail notifications?

I am not getting them anymore at all. My notification settings are still the same.

So it wouldn’t allow the picture you see but allowed the screen captured image prior to hitting Reply, error message again.both are screen captured images btw.

A picture loaded and about to hit Reply!

After many attempts at adding a picture and each one vanishing I screen captured the above and it actually worked,

the error message generated after failing to upload the picture, I wonder how long before it vanishes?
