The Autistic Christian

Let me say from the start that I have a strong faith and although I’m willing to discuss it, I have not started this thread to try and evangelise anyone. Simply I’d like to discuss with other autistic Christians how they cope with church, other Christians and trying to resolve their head around everything.

  • Hi, Handi-andis,

It's a bit of a digression from the original discussion, but I've decided that I want to help the church I attend to be more welcoming for people with autism, (admittedly, partly with my own son in mind.) I'd like to set up a quiet place inside for the overwhelmed or just plain bored to retreat to, ideally something more interesting than just a spare empty room, in which they can still feel like part of the congregation. I've never done anything like this before and I need some ideas about what resources (including other helpers) might be involved. It's just me and no money at the moment. I would be willing and happy to fundraise.

  • Speak to the audio visual team, they may be able to provide a sound feed into the room and potentially a video feed, thus enabling your son and others to be part of the congregation without being in the same room as them.
