Is there anyone on here who has 'been there, done it etc' with regards to transition? I feel totally lost in the process and have no idea how we will stand financially etc.
At 16, what happens about DLA, Child Tax Credit etc? If in education, does that exempt a 16 yr old from prescriptions and dental treatment or would you pay otherwise? Do you still see a paediatrician? Do you still qualify for Direct Payments or do you have to be re-assessed? Do you still qualify for home to school transport or does that depend on which college you attend? Do you still have a family support worker or is that stopped?
I wish I didn't have to worry about the financial side but I do. I have tailored my job around my son since he was born but now I fear that I might have to find a full time job because we won't be able to survive if not. Then if I have to transport my son to his college (which is not likely to be local), I don't know how I am going to manage. Whilst we have never qualified for the full gamut of benefits, I feel grateful that we have had the support of child tax credit because it has allowed me to work part time and give quality time to my son because we don't have any close family who can look after him. I have to be here in the morning and again when he returns from school which wouldn't fit with full time working. I will do 1000 little jobs if I have to in order to survive but I need to think ahead to a year's time to make those plans if everything stops.
Any advice anyone can offer would be gratefully received.
