I like eating chicken (rant alert)

What I don't like is the disturbing footage of what those chickens go through to get to me at a cheap price. I actually hate the word 'cheap'. I've seen the footage on TikTok and YouTube and it's really bad. They really suffer. They stew in their own poop and hardly have feathers. Their legs break, due to the how they are bred to make extra meat. That's all going on behind the scenes.

I think they should crank the price up for meat and let those animals live a good life before they are slaughtered.

The UK is supposed to be a first world country and shouldn't out source meat from cheap places that hurt animals.

I like meat and do not intend to be vegan. I'm fully aware that animals eat each other, so veganism is rather silly when you factor that.

I would like to see a law where the animals, bred for consumption are treated humanely, like actual living creatures.

If you can't afford humanely slaughtered meat, then eat vegetables.

Double the price of meat (hell, even triple it), but make sure the animals are treated well. No animal should suffer in a civilised society.

I know this has gone on for hundreds of years, but maybe it's time to stop it? It's 2026.

Formo is a start up company that have found a way to make actual milk protein without subjecting cows to a life of torture.

They don't have a voice. What's happening to them is on par with the holocaust concentration camps.

Kind of ironic as kosher animals suffer the same way.

This will probably be deleted, but it's not right that those animals have to suffer torture to reduce the price of their meat.

Meat should be a luxury if you can afford it.

How can anyone justify the torture of animals to increase profits?

It annoys me. 275 million animals are used for scientific experiments every year. For what? So eyeliner isn't irritating?

I know this post is naive, but what an ugly practice.

As someone who's been vegan for over 25 years (and vegetarian before that), this phrase - for me - is oxymoronic / self-contradictory.

I'm fully aware that animals eat each other, so veganism is rather silly when you factor that.

Animals can't buy ethical, vegan alternatives, but we can Slight smile

I know this post is naive

I don't think that your upset or alarm are naive at all. This general line of thinking is what people can often go through before reaching a decision to become vegetarian or vegan.

I shared a quote recently in another thread. Together with learning more about egg farming and the dairy industry, it helped in motivating me to switch from being vegetarian to vegan. The "needlessly" aspect, in particular, helped me to question and explore whether eating animal-derived products was necessary at all.

"I would not enter on my list of friends
(Though graced with polished manners and fine sense,
    Yet wanting sensibility) the man
Who needlessly sets foot upon a worm."

    From:

English Verse - "Care for the Lowest", by William Cowper

These days, it's possible to get everything we need without eating them, or what they produce.

  • How do you get on with eating out Bunny? I find theres still a massive amount of ignorance about what being vegetarian means, let alone being vegan, or plant based, whatever that really means?

Maybe the way forward for meat eating is to eat less, but better quality meat, treat it as a treat, make use of all of it, if you have a chicken, pick the carcase down and reuse all the meat in various dishes and boil up the bones for stock.

One fo the things that confuses me about meat eaters is how hard they try and not know that they eat animals, I'm not an ethical vegetarian, so I don't have a problem with people eating meat, I just have a problem with the dishonesty about it, I think if you're going to eat meat then you should be prepared to kill the animal yourself and if you can't face that then don't eat it.

  • One fo the things that confuses me about meat eaters is how hard they try and not know that they eat animals,

It does not take any effort to not think about something like this so I think you misunderstand the approach most take.

For the majority thinking about the cruelty behind the creation of the meat is up there with thinking about homeless people, child abuse, genocide in the Middle East and Africa, government control of so much of our lives, the disparity between the rich and the poor etc etc.

For them it is a subject that is uncomfortable to think about so is mentally filed away somewhere that it will not cause more distress in our already heavily stressed lives.

Having the capacity to worry about these things is seen as a luxury that they cannot afford since they need to worry about their jobs, their kids, paying the bills, the annoying neighbour, the vets bills for the dog, the car maintenance that is coming up, what to get their partner for their birthday etc etc.

It is wilful avoidance of thinking about it for good reasons - but one persons value of "good" is probably different to anothers.
