Mr Motivator still going! Older people's fitness vital for mobility.

This is not particularly autistic but does anyone remember Mr Motivator [from Covid times]? Well, he's still going strong, giving fitness classes in care homes.  I've started attending an NHS class designed to improve mobililty for older people and find it very 'motivating.' I was referred after a rotator cuff injury - my fitness had reduced considerably because I found it painful to move. I would really recommend such classes if you are older. These ought to be funded by the NHS because I'm sure they would considerably reduce costs associated with falls, isolation and damaged limbs. What do you think? Should the NHS be more focussed on preventative methods?

  • Oh yes, I remember him. He made each short routine interesting and certainly, he lived up to his name. I could do with him as my personal trainer at home. Exercising can be so boring but I have been religiously doing my strengthening routines since last summer and it does help.

Good for you doing an exercise class. Definitely, the NHS should fund exercise classes as its literature already promotes such things. Maybe Andy Burnham will consider this in his big plan. Think of the money that could be saved through fewer people falling and needing health and social care.

Recently, I invested in some new gym equipment which (in theory) will allow me to spend less time exercising for more value. I’m doing core strength exercises with weights to try to build muscle and strengthen my core. I’m determined to keep this going forever as I’m worried about becoming unable to do things.
