Mr Motivator still going! Older people's fitness vital for mobility.

This is not particularly autistic but does anyone remember Mr Motivator [from Covid times]? Well, he's still going strong, giving fitness classes in care homes.  I've started attending an NHS class designed to improve mobililty for older people and find it very 'motivating.' I was referred after a rotator cuff injury - my fitness had reduced considerably because I found it painful to move. I would really recommend such classes if you are older. These ought to be funded by the NHS because I'm sure they would considerably reduce costs associated with falls, isolation and damaged limbs. What do you think? Should the NHS be more focussed on preventative methods?

  • I remember Mr Motivator from the 90's. My mum had a video of his and I think he was on morning TV too wasn't he? That's a lovely story from his work in care homes, preventative NHS classes sound a good idea, as it can be scary going to established classes as everyone else knows what they are doing! (Although I would probably not sign up to anything as I'm rubbish at things like that).

I wonder what a neurodivergent fitness class would look like? Music or not? I think I would still prefer with music so you can't hear the noise from everyone's bodies moving!

Then you are precisely the target audience!

I'm rubbish at a lot of things before I start doing them, and it can be amazing how even a few classes can get you up that initial very steep learning curve and make a real difference. I will never be amazing at any of them, but it's incredible how much difference it's made to my general health and day to day life to get a little bit better at them
