Having a literal melt down

Hello

I'm sure everyone is going through this.

Today I got so anxious about the heatwave that I didn't know what to do with myself.

Spent so much time trying to logically figure out how to escape the heat that I got really upset and even hotter.

I just can't function in this heat. It's so disregulating.

Previously I've tried a number of different fans, a very expensive loud air conditioning unit, staying in a hotel with ac (very expensive). I don't think it's possible to escape the heat unfortunately.

How do you manage? Do you have any tips?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

  • I struggle with warm and hot weather. My preferred outside temperature is between 3 (yes three!) degrees C and 15 degrees C and my preferred inside temperature is 13.5  degrees C in the winter and 15 degrees in the summer. I go into survival mode during a heatwave, to me it seems as long as the heat wave lasts then we are in an emergency crisis and my role is to try to keep the temperature in the house as low as possible. It has reached 20 degrees in our house today and I can't function as normal. I am just waiting for it to cool down and trying to survive until then! I get really stressed about correctly (optimally) managing doors, windows, curtains, extractor fans etc. I check the weather forecast, indoor and outdoor temperatures and humidity levels constantly, sometimes refreshing the weather page over and over again for hours to see if anything has changed.

If the heatwave is prolonged and temperatures in the house rise above what I can stand, then I have found it helps to direct the breeze of a fan on me (I really like the Meaco Arete 1 and find it to be quiet, highly controllable and effective) and when it get's really bad, putting my feet in a tub of cold tap water helps, as does putting some wet fabric around my neck.

When there was that heatwave in July a few years ago, the temperature where I lived reached 38 degrees C. I got desperate one day and took off my top and dunked it a bathtub of cold water in a panic, then squeezed the water out and put it back on me straight away. If felt absolutely horrible at first, but it was the most effective method of cooling I have ever utilised (other then full body immersion in cold water) and it kept me cool for several hours and made me feel a lot better and less panicky.
