How can I stop watching stuff that makes me angry?

Hello. I would like some people that could help me stop the urge to watch stuff that makes me angry. You see, I once watched videos that were made on this website called GoAnimate, where where the community has a unyielding hatred against "baby show" characters like Cailou, Dora, the Backyardigans and more. They make videos out of them where they get grounded for the stupidest reasons. Some even misbehave so bad, that they get dragged into military school by cruel drill instructors who force the troublemakers to do 1000 laps, push-ups, etc. The police and FBI aren't any different either as they sometimes arrest someone who got a "dead meat" card, and then execute the person. It just makes me so mad, that I wanted to use Wrapper Offline to make my own videos where I lead a faction that enforces real life consequences in a chaotic world like Go!Animate. But I know that I did end up doing that, someone in the community might find out and I could end up being targeted by insane man-childs that don't even know life works.

So, can anyone who is like-minded, kindly give me any advice to how I can cope with this urge?

  • I do know what you mean, links get shared at school and my kids were watching a re-edited peppa pig video which recut the preschool show to be mean and make fun of the main character. I wasn't happy about them quoting from it all the time, and pointed out it's a show meant for very small children and making fun of it was like bullying small children.

We can't stop this very low-brow content being made, but you can chose better, like every has suggested. If other videos get more hits and you make an effort not to click on the bad content, it will evenutally get forgotten and buried and they don't make money from you watching it. That is the best course of action, and all you can do in the end.

  • Just watch the stuff that yo search for and not the stuff in your feed.

  • Here are some ideas:

    1. When you open any video or news site, don't watch or read what you are told / offered, but only what you willingly search for.
    2. We are all more useful and happy when we slowly "grow ourselves" or cultivate. So when the need appears, you can think of, what would actually make me grow, or at least not shrink? (I am half joking, but a funny thought may help.)
    3. Consider replacements in advance. For example, when I think of "Watching the News" I try to swap it for "Watch Philosophy Overdose", or read this forum, or some book.
    4. Reserve a specific time slot if it is too hard at first, to watch those, until they disappear.
  • Thank you very much. Very appreciated. Thumbsup

  • These videos make me upset and stressed too. When I stopped watching it. I feel so much better. Those videos aren't real, by the way. Thank you.

  • You choose what you watch. No one controls you. The internet has lots of stuff. You don't have to look at it.

Worry about what you can control and ignore the rest. Worrying about what other people do is largely pointless. They don't care, it is just a laugh. Perhaps don't take it so seriously. If you find things tasteless, then just ignore them. If it is legal and does not breach any terms of use, then it is what it is. You aren't the police.

If you want to know what is going on, then be honest about what you are doing. Watching is for information only, you don't engage emotionally, then you move on and do something else.

  • I'd ask what are you getting out of all this anger? Is it displaced onto this internet stuff because you can't express it any other way?

What happens when you stop watching it? Do you still have feelings of anger?

  • I dunno... try watching stuff that makes you happy or makes you laugh, I guess?

The mention of Cailou actually reminds me of a Robot Chicken sketch where he was a giant monster (because Cailou rhymes with Kaiju Laughing)
