Worried about elections

I'm really worried about what will happen if Reform get elected in the Sennedd, they want so many things that will have a huge negative impact on people like me. I'm not sure I'd want to carry on living in Wales if that happened, it was bad enough after Brexit, but I'm not sure I feel safe living anywhere.

  • We're going to close this thread now. While it began as a valid discussion about anxiety and wellbeing, it has moved into repeated disagreements and personal exchanges, despite earlier reminders to keep things respectful.

This part of the community is intended to be a supportive space where people can share worries about their mental health without feeling challenged, criticised or drawn into conflict. When conversations move away from support and into confrontation, criticism or point‑scoring, we will step in to stop further harm.

Thank you to those who engaged respectfully. If you’d like to continue talking about coping with anxiety or managing the impact of news and current events on your wellbeing, please feel free to start a new thread focused on those aspects.

  • Rather glad I spent the morning planting raspberries and I hope all our usual folks on here are OK after what I have read on here Purple heart

  • Ironically this thread has proved your point in many ways!

  • Hello all,

Just want to give a second gentle reminder of Rule 7: Be respectful in discussions
Disagreements are fine, but personal attacks, insults, and swearing are not. Respect other viewpoints and avoid escalating arguments.

    Thank you.

  • I didn't see it, but I read that Reform's Wales candidate refused to tell the BBC how his costings on reforming quangos are worked out.

Really! If it's for the good of Wales, why not say?

  • Me too, ArchaeC, all they seem to do is shout at other people, I watched some of the leadership debate last night and the Reform bloke just shouted over everyone else.

  • Beware those that just attack others without saying what they will do. Knowing what they are against is not the same as knowing what they are for. Look at what they do, not what they say

    Sound advice.

  • And people wonder why I don't use facebook and other similar stuff!

  • It's reminded me of further reasons why I don't want Reform elected.

  • I kinda see how it did - that's why I only follow certain pages and only in the group for the village I live in - I try to just look at their stuff and ignore others, sometimes it's hard and I do the 'doomscroll' but I'm learning not to!

  • You are misusing the term 'logical fallacy'.

You are relying on a moderator to strengthen your personal option and approach to make it seem you are correct.  That’s what you call a logical fallacy.

That is an accusation about a behaviour, not a proof of false reasoning. B didn't claim that the moderator's comments were the reason for her views, she offered it as an example. It is incorrect to claim it's a 'logical fallacy' because she didn't claim that the moderator's comments were the sole justification for her views.

  • This went to Facebook mode real fast lol

  • Jeez I wish I'd not started this thread now.

  • To be honest most of politics don't make sense to me,

however, I hope you get the right party for where you live Slight smile

  • You are asking someone to be less themselves so you can be more yourself.

    Where?

Until you came along accusing me of things I'd only posted once on this thread.

Everything else has been responding to you.

You can't prove anything you say about me as you know nothing about me.

get offended then complain about why people post their own opinions.

    Another lie.

  • Accusing someone of a straight up lie could be insulting.  You are asking someone to be less themselves so you can be more yourself. This is a difficulty position.

You clearly said you try hard not to look yet look and get offended then complain about why people post their own opinions.  That to me is illogical.

  • I agree with your outlook on facts and data, as that’s where the real info is.  You are correct in saying anyone ca say anything, that’s why we have actions speak louder than words.  But yes the stoic approach is the one I would choose, I just think it’s also important to set the record straight from time to time.  But I mostly agree with your perspective.

  • You are missing out glaring points though aren’t you? There so many moving parts and so many different institutions know one can guarantee exactly how it will go.  You have to project and work towards it, I think people have a very simplistic view of politics.  Reform have a conference once a week and say what they want what they stand for and what Th he want to implement.  Will it all get done probably not will it happen exactly how they think, no as human behaviour and interactions don’t happen in a vacuum.  Yet it is much worse when a party have a manifesto get into Government and change all of it.  Sound familiar?

  • You say try not to read but then you are offended and complain, yet you are the some who looked and repainted and feel emotional

    You are lying.

Nowhere have I done this ie 'offended and complain' etc etc.

  • I would only say that all of them are lying to some extent. None of them will do what they say. All have their snouts in the trough. All say what they think their base want to hear.

Beware those that just attack others without saying what they will do. Knowing what they are against is not the same as knowing what they are for. Look at what they do, not what they say. Beware topics framed in emotive language and pictures, try to find facts, not emotions.

Don't trust one side to tell you what the other side will do. Look up what the other side actually say. Don't trust any single outlet, beware influencers, read different opinions. Check some facts. A lot is published online, ONS data, government figures, budgets, stats, etc.

But mostly, worry about what you can control. Try not to worry about what you cannot.
