Grief and loss

Yesterday I attended a peer support group for grief and loss and it's brought up memories and feelings for people, pets etc I've lost over the years. Well I'm still trying to do normal things the feelings are taking over and I don't like it. Any suggestions?

  • We lost my daughter's hamster last month, it really upset me a lot, but as my daughter is more pragmatic I tried to suppress it all so as not to overshadow her own feelings. (Though she did see my crying my eyes out, so I explained people showed grief in different ways and not everyone cries when sad. ) It is sometimes hard when it's a small pet, as it's less socially acceptable to be upset and I don't want to take away from other people's more rightful grief.

I hope your group, though upsetting, was on the whole useful for learning how to process and hold grief in a more long term way.

I liked the bit DormouseAtRest said about giving it physical presence with pebbles and such.

    Wishing you inner peace.

  • Sorry to hear about your hamster

The group was useful, I just didn't expect the feelings to come back
