When your voice not being heard

Have you ever had those moments when your voice isn't heard?

Whenever I'm talking to someone, and they know I'm talking to them, sometimes they will cut me off or talk over me. Or they will turn to talk to someone else when I'm in mid-sentence.

Another time, I'm talking about something very important, and other people don't take it in,

Whenever I tell a joke or something funny, some people take it seriously or vice versa. When I talk about something important, some people will take it as a joke. Or when I give someone an answer to a question, and they don't believe me, and then when someone else says the same things that I said, the person believes them,

Has anyone ever been in those types of situations?

  • The jokes, or not, is down to phrasing, flat affect and different processing. It is why ASD is a communication issue.

The talking over you happens to me. Sone is just rudeness. Itvus how people are. Some is a problem with the turn based system. You talk too long, or don't pick up the cues the other person is losing interest.

What do you do? Either try to modify your interactions slightly, get a thicker skin and just carry on, or avoid some people.

Try not to over generalise though and isolate yourself.

Thicker skin is the main one, but it is not easy. To be fair though, I sometimes talk over other people too.  I think it is mostly about confidence, assertiveness, shallower interactions, more summarised communication. None of which are really natural ASD strong points.
