Extreme Anxiety & Suspected ASD

Hi,

im not sure if anyone can relate or offer advice but I'm currently waiting to be assessed for ASD.i also struggle daily with social anxiety- to the point where I find it very difficult to leave the house.i left secondary school at 14 due to bullying and anxiety and now I am 20, so I have been isolated for a while.

Since then, I have found It difficult to make or keep friends, now my confidence is really low.i was wondering if anybody has any advice on small steps to start getting out more or how you manage the negative voice in your head when going out or trying to meet new people.

Thank you :)

  • Hi Lucy. That sounds very difficult to manage. I'm sorry to hear things are so difficult. I'm a bit older than you but I left my first senior school at 14/15 missed my SATs, then went to a second senior school to do my GCSE's because I was bullied at the first; so you are definitely not alone. People here will be able to offer relatable experiences. I hope things start to get better for you. I think you just learn to manage as you say the negative voices in your head a bit better. I started by doing little things. Setting small goals. Going to the same shops just to build up my confidence. Id try and start a conversation with the person at the till in the shop. Little things like that.
