EUPD or autism traits

I have a history of anxiety, depression and CPTSD. In October 2025 I was diagnosed with traits of EUPD. However in December 2025 I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. I believe that the traits that were observed are actually due to autism not EUPD. I was referred to our local complex needs service due to the EUPD traits diagnosis and they are insisting on assessing me despite the fact that they now know I have autism. I feel in a no-win position as if I refuse to be assessed I am unlikely to get any other support from the local adult mental health team. Does anyone else have experience of this or no where I can get support? I feel like I am going to sit on a waiting list for a service which is inappropriate to my needs and not actually get any treatment for what I need.

  • I don’t have anything I can suggest to get the correct support, but I can kinda relate. Having had many diagnoses over the last 25 years, the one that’s still on my records is BPD or EUPD. Ive seen lots of mental health professionals prior to my autism diagnosis, but since my diagnosis…none. I questioned this with the guy I see at the autism place, because I wanted to revisit DBT and do the course again (which would have been the 4th time) and he said they won’t see me in the CMHT if I’m under the Autism service, likewise the Autism service won’t see me if I’m under the CMHT. This was disappointing. However, I feel the BPD diagnosis is wrong, and all my issues were related to me being autistic. I was originally diagnosed BPD 21 years ago! And it’s still on my records! Anyway, I’m going off on a tangent here. Apologies, but they do like to throw that EUPD/BPD label around a lot.
