Argh! Burned 2 pans through not concentrating! What is your favourite recovery method?

I was focussing on a bad review of something that took a lot of effort. I forgot I'd put my dinner on the stove and by the time I remembered the pans were black, food charred - the kitchen full of stinky smoke. I'm surprised the alarm did not go off so must check with the landlord - I think it's a heat not a smoke detector in the kitchen. To recover my balance, I've eaten a dish of crystallised ginger, lowering the level of my goodie jar by nearly a quarter Rolling eyes [oh dear, wry look]. I'm considering making popcorn or chips but trying not to, as my GP wants me to lose weight.. I've put the dishwasher on hoping Fairy 'Skip the Soak' works well.

That aside, what's your favourie method of recovery for something like this? Do you resort to food?

  • I haven’t experience of this, but my mum used to put biological washing powder and water on the hob to simmer and the burnt bit that was stuck to the bottom of the saucepan used to float to the top of the frothy liquid. She had an Aga but I have no recollection of how long it took to remove the burnt bits. It mightn’t be cost effective if using this method on other types of hobs, but I do remember it worked on her steel pans.
