A maybe positive therapy update

If anyone has seen my previous posts, they will know that I have been on a bit of a rollercoaster (with a lot of down hills) when it comes to therapy. Today I had a one off appointment with the person in charge of step 4 psychology in my area. He was helpful and seemed willing to adapt and we have hopefully chosen a path that fits best for me. To my surprise, he said that he isn't classing my last therapy as complete so I don't go back to the bottom of a waiting list. It is more a case of finding the best fit. He is going to take it to his team and see who they think is best qualified/personality wise to meet my needs and then they will fit me in when they can. He reckoned about a 6 month wait which may still sound quite long, but it isn't the 3-4 years that I was expecting. I'm nervous as I've not had a good experience of therapy so far but I'm trying to be optimistic that this time there is actually a proper plan with my needs in mind which will hopefully be the right fit this time.

  • Yes, I was pleasantly surprised. I had written off NHS therapy if I'm honest but I can't afford private. He was honest, he didn't make any promises but he broke everything down and what he said made sense. He seemed in tune with what I was saying. His first question was to check whether I was ok with the room being quite dark as the main light was very bright. Just those little gestures that show some understanding of autism I find very helpful. But the whole process for this next set of therapy sound much more flexible than my previous experience so fingers crossed.
