ADHD services shutting door to new NHS patients as demand soars

Specialist ADHD services for adults in England are stopping taking on new patients as they struggle to cope with demand, a BBC investigation has shown.

The BBC has identified 15 local areas that have closed waiting lists and another 31 that have introduced tighter criteria, making it more difficult to access support.

There are nearly twice as many ADHD people as autists so when a service for a larger neurodivergent group like this is being restricted it does not bode well for a smaller minority like autists.

Do you think that encouraging a shift from just general support to helping us get back into the workforce would be a good way to encourage greater funding for these services? In theory it should be at least partically self funding through tax revenue.

If there are other ways you can think of to encourage them to spend on us without getting something in return then I would love to hear them,

  • Honestly I think it's pandering to the likes of Farage who think there are to many people being diagnosed and that it's all some sort of woke conspiracy because nobody was ND in his day, despite the fact that ND wasn't recognised.

    Also there is a funding crisis in the whole sector, SEND is under review too.

  • I caught the back end of this news on the TV at Breakfast and it seemed to follow another report on the BEEB yesterday on "getting more people in work" and it mentioned the rise in numbers signed off with ADHD and Autism specifically,  seems like the BEEB are less impartial and becoming political on this

    Its almost laughable that the jobs are decreasing and numbers out of work are expected to rise.  So maybe the Gov's of last 5 decades perhaps should of been creating better work conditions (like some enjoy on the continent) and have a growing economy that produces rather imports

    Well the budget in 3 weeks time is likely to give hope, a final goodbye.
