What makes people tip buskers

So views on why people decide to tip buskers as a busker I appreciate tips But I often wonder why people decide to I do becuase I enjoy the song they’re playing or just to support a fellow talented musican

from my experiance if I’m playing a song im not enjoying I get less tips if I’m doing it becuase I feel I should and im not giving out good happy im enjoying this vibes I get less but if I am I get more

if I’m playing popular songs it can vary but songs people dont so or in original styles that are popular worker better than another person singing George Ezra or ed sheran

wonderwall only gets tips or happy faces if it’s got a twist and shouldn’t be played too often becuase everyone can and will play it

I feel I get most for songs im good at and that I enjoy but also if people know the song

views?

im not looking for tips i busk to promote and to get confidence in music and becuase it’s fun money made is a bonus ive done full sets before and made little to no cash and enjoyed it

  • Concert energy is a must also if you make mistakes in that are funny laugh about it or smooth over it

if it’s a busy day and lots are around I’ll tip one who gives good energy and has reasonable sound output on their amp

alsonine who has good practices like there these opera singers local to me they’re amp is way too loud they treat the same aet in locations less than 100 yards apart for hours and there’s a little buskers truck you start with a float to show your willing to accept donations it also make it look like people have tipped agin this shows your accepting tips they use Chinese money to do so which makes it so obvious there in it for purelyoney where as English money would look like it was wrll earned

as for nkt carting cash a lot of buskers have card readers now and despite nonsense people say about it being illegal it’s all fine as long as A they’re a registered buinsness or sole trader for tax reasons and B they’re don’t have signs asking for any form of payment unless they have a trading licence

  • Generally I'd tip if it was someone that had persuaded me to stand around and listen. With the best will in the world, I couldn't tip every busker I walk past. I guess I'd be more likely to stop and listen if you were playing a song I liked but generally I think it's more a mix of the talent, my music preference but also a lot of the buskers personality. I will never forget a guy performing in Paris. We sat and listened to him for over an hour. Not just because he was a good singer but because he was such a good performer. He got a good tip - he'd basically done a mini concert for us. Admittedly I'm a lot less likely to tip these days though because I just don't carry cash around with me.
