Questions questions questions

Does anyone struggle with being asked personal questions when meeting new people? Some people are like machine guns, firing off question after question and expecting answers, most of which are deeply personal? Then they get all shirty when you say you don't want to answer that, like they have a right to know your life history when they've just met you? I find people like this very judgemental too.

I feel like I've been assaulted and interogated, quite stunned, I'm quite a private person, I'm happy to share my thoughts and experiences most of the time, but in ways I can control without being rude.

I escape from such people as soon as I can and don't answer thier questions, but it's hard when they're the sister of a friend, or friend of a friend or something.

  • My last house was in a small village, there were two really nosey people who I knew would stop me every time I took the dog out. I would normally try to swerve them. The same questions every time, one day I was even sitting in the GP’s waiting room and I saw one of them come in, I got asked straight away, “and what’s wrong with you?”

I was in a lot of pain and just blurted out, “why, are you a doctor?”
