Had a meldown this morning.

I used to enjoy going to the library for returning and borrowing books.

In 2023 the library moved upstairs to a tiny room, which was done in secret:( Apparently the landlady put up the rent on the previous library (was down stairs in a bigger room);

Recently the library days and hours are reduced without any notice. Now its: Tuesday 10am-2.30pm, Thursday 11.45am-4.15pm and Saturday 9.30am-12noon.

The library assistant doesn't have enough time to do tasks and now they want two volunteers. 

Delivery comes in at 1pm which is late. I was finding that I couldn't find anything to read in the teen section (im in my 40s); 

Today I was thinking of giving up the library as a user. Three times I had a panic attack and nearly threw up. 

Going to keep my library card for support other libraries or try again later in the year.

Prefer to use the telephone box book exchange. 

Got a nice pile of books for reading, no late fees or registration fees. Going to do my own book log.Basically I'm just frustrated.

  • I used the library a lot as a kid. I was in there several times a week. (The bullies weren't big into reading.) It was a great resource at a time when I was flat broke. I don't know what I would have done without it.

    As an adult (with AuDHD) visiting only occasionally, I found the whole thing about bringing books back on time very stressful. I had to remember to go and remember to go back again later. Sounds easy, but my brain ain't no good at that kind of thing.

    My local library now has no late fees. Which is nice, but I'd still feel honour-bound to bring books back on time. They also do e-books, but they can only be read on a phone or tablet, not an e-reader, which doesn't suit my eyesight.

    Thats a really good idea that I'll just visit occasionally to borrow books. I can borrow them for  3 weeks and renew books up to 3 times. Basically have them for 12 weeks unless someone wants them. Under 18s don't pay any fines anymore (which would of been useful in 2001/2002); I do get a reminder email that due in three days. e-books no good as in 2021 I had an eye infection.
