Staying away from cmht

For years now I have felt like being under the mental health team does more halm than good. Every letter I recieve includes inaccurate information about myself and also harmful comments triggering upset. I just wish I could be free of them all the time I'm under them I feel like my illness defines me as a person and I feel they own me . Does anyone else feel like this?

  • I can understand how you feel. My policy is to only involve myself with any services if it is completely unavoidable. They can indeed do more harm than good sometimes. Whe my son was younger he was referred to CAMHS a couple of times and it was really terrible - they seemed to have little empathy or understanding of my son’s needs, and each time we left an appointment my son was really upset and felt worse. So I’m very wary. Having said that I had a very good experience with an nhs therapist who treated me for ptsd. So you have to just see how things go in each particular case. But often - as you say - they can do more harm than good sadly.
