Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. What gives you ASMR?

This is something I've only just discovered as a thing in the last year or so, but obviously I've felt it all my life and not known what it was. A few things can trigger my ASMR, but a couple in particular are high notes in my favourite songs and other satisfying sounds and textures. I watched Frozen 2 for the first time this weekend and Into The Unknown sung by Idina Menzel really hit me. I absolutely loved it and it gave me the tingles. Another one is The Wizard And I sung by Cynthia Erivo in Wicked.

On reading about ASMR I've discovered that it's really good for regulating the nervous system, so I'll be seeking out self soothing noises and textures next time I'm struggling.

What gives you ASMR?

  • Oooh The Wizard and I is a fantastic song that also gives me tingles! Theres a bit in 'Im not that girl' (Cynthia again lol) where she drops the note from higher to llower and its amazing. Also Defying Gravity (but I like this one more so for the message). Fun fact, I saw Wicked for the first time in Broadway, NYC when I was 15. It was a while ago but I still remember the feeling of awe.

As for what gives me ASMR, I like those videos where dogs are crunching food lol. Not everyone's favourite im sure.

    And autumn leaves crunching.

  • Yup, all those things. I loved Defying Gravity too. I get tingles when I remember the images of her flying and striking the pose with her cloak and broom. So exciting and powerful.

I also like the crunching / eating ones. Beavers crunching lettuce is fun. Grin

  • 100%, exciting and powerful are exactly how I'd describe that too Grin and also just, just fills me up with the best feeling.

Oooh I have listened to beavers crunching lettuce yet.. that's next on my list!
