Suicide ideation?

Has anyone any thoughts, ideas, experiences etc on suicide ideation? It is a difficult subject to find anything about online without being redirected to the samararins etc.

  • I'll put a TRIGGER WARNING here in case the following subject is a bit much for those reading.

I've had suicidal ideation a lot since being a teenager, so on and off for about 30 years or so. I've never attempted it although I've come close to considering it a few times.

The thing I try to remember is that most of us don't actually want to die, we just want the pain to stop, whether that physical or emotional pain. It's a hard thing to get past in our dark moments, especially when we have a disability or chronic pain and there's very little help out there, or we don't know where or have the energy to look for it.

I'm currently seeing a therapist and we're going through childhood experiences, so trying to find out exactly how much I've been suppressing for years is hard but also interesting and freeing at the same time. Just talking and relating on forums like this one can help to ease things if we're feeling unheard or invalidated, and it can get us through the really tough times into a space where we can start to do things that can help us feel better.

I've recently come out of a patch like this and aside from therapy it's helped me to meditate every morning, try to stick to healthier food options, stay hydrated (most of us don't drink enough water) and not give myself a hard time for being low or tired.

Also if you feel at crisis point and you don't have anyone to call or visit, then there are helplines and text lines if talking is too much.

I feel that this is a good subject to talk about more as many of us probably experience it or have done, and making it 'taboo' doesn't help anyone.
