I'm scared and worried

Quite frankly Donald Trump is terrifying me, he seems intent on wrecking the planet, bullying anyone and everyone, either through deportation or declaring that they must be either male or female, making it easier to sack federal staff, trade tariffs and he's a danger to world health by planing to withdraw from WHO and pausing funding for it.

I worry about whats next or who's next, will he start his military rampaging around the world annexing where he pleases in the name of America First and national security?

What will happen to the trans people, or those who genetically speaking dont' fit into binary genders?

He is really and genuinely scaring me to the point that I'm not sure I want to be around to see the results of his chaos.

  • Trump signed an executive order today basically firing all inclusion staff and pressuring private companies to do the same. I work for a large American company and it’s likely this will ripple down to us. Some of my colleagues are fearful for their jobs.

I suspect it will also mean the end of our nascent neurodiversity groups at work.

  • She really was and she is now being threatened on social media Pensive

  • There probably is an agenda behind this, but that dosent' mean we're wrong to be afraid of having an egomaniac with nuclear weapons.

I think it is what a lot of people want, look at the Sun and News Groups massive payouts to Prince Harry and Tom Watson today? All the people that bewailed the death of Princess Diana were quite happy to read all the stories about her. People think they have the "right to know", but know what exactly and why? I think we need to up our privacy laws, obviously we want to know if our elected leaders and people in positions of power and influence are behaving in a criminal manner ot abusing thier positions, we have a right to know that, but how much they spend on furnishings or where they go on holiday, where's the public interest in that?

I think social media plays far to large a role in the spread of disinformation and gossip, how many tutorials on putting on make-up does the world need? It's drivel that rots the brain.

  • Exactly right! The quality and spread of newsworthy accounts on TV and in newspapers have become limited over the last decades. Many people have been affected by tragedies caused by corrupt leaders in other foreign countries and this rarely makes the news. British newspapers are too busy feeding us all the dirt they can about politicians on the left or the right, when they could be giving us quality information. But this seems to be what people want.

  • The bishop was admirable in her address to him yesterday. A brave woman!

  • Also, without undermining anyone's fears, including my own,  or the experiences of those who may or may not be affected - we see what is reported to us and there's usually an agenda behind this. If we take mainstream, it's what are (made to be) the biggest news stories of the day. Our attention is moulded by what is given to us. So if it wasn't reported, would it still be important to us?

  • I used to worry about all these types of things. Then I stopped looking at the news.

At my age, I don't feel I have enough time left to worry about things that are not currently directly impacting me.

  • I sometimes wonder if I'll die of "what ifs"?

I see all diversity projects are being shut with staff on immediate paid leave.

Canada is to be punished with tariffs until it des something to stop illegal migration into the US, I thought more people were going the other way, from America into Canada?

China is seriously thinking of stepping into the breech left by Trump on climate change, I hope they do, even if I trust them about as far as I could throw them.

I listen to American commentators on news programs and I seriously start wondering if they're visitors from a parrallel universe? Not only do they seem to be unable to answer a simple straight question, but have to spin it so as it's a conspiracy. I wonder if you asked them if it's raining outside, how they'd spin that into a conspiracy you're attempting to foist upon them?

  • Seems like I'm not alone here in having a brain that has a "what if" worry radar.

It sweeps around and around everything in my life, checking it's still ok, if not worry about it, if it is ok then have a think about what happens if it's not.

I can't imagine having a moment where there's not at least some little stress nagging at me. Even if it's the fact I'm worried that there's nothing to worry about so I must be missing something!!

  • That's made me chuckle as it's so relatable, you cheered me up Joy

  • Worrying is one of my special interests

  • For some reason I am not able to worry because my current mind set is this is all far bigger than my tiny mind can handle. Whatever will be will be. One individual and his decisions does not concern me too much but what does is the outward ripple effect on humans, attitudes, values and behaviour which will be legitimised further. Let's be kind to ourselves and all living beings in our thoughts and actions and spread that outwards as much as possible.

  • I've been scared and worried since circa 2005......this is just another "chapter" in why we all seem intent on driving ourselves towards a disaster?!  Focusing on "Trump" or any other individual, I believe, is missing the BIGGER and more important point?  HOW THE *HELL did we get ourselves (very collectively) to this point in human history?

FWIW.....I think we should be looking at the MECHANISMS that have lead us to "now", rather than the personalities that have triumphed under those mechanisms.  I believe, the diametrically opposed reality, could also "now" be the case.

Like you The Cat Woman, I am scared and worried (yet sanguine).....but for broader reasonsing of HOW we have reached here, NOW.

  • Me too and I agree with all you say.

He doesn't appear to have a moral compass, just a 'me' one where everything points back to his ego.

  • I'm glad someone else saw this too, I wonder what excuses he will make, does it invalidate his presidency? I can understand if he's not Christian, I don't have a problem with that, I have a problem with his seeming dishonesty and that he wasn't called out over it.

The only social media I do is here, but it's pretty hard to stay away from him without wrapping my head in a pillow.

On the one hand he strikes out the convictions of and pardons rioters and insurections, even those who hurt people and with the other he declares drug cartels as terrorists. I dont' entirely disagree with him on that, but I don't think it will make much difference as law enforcement has plenty of powers to deal with cartels, I just find it totally inconsistent.

I guess we can hope that not as much gas and oil extraction will happen as Trump wants because if the price goes down then the companies won't make the massive profits the want.

    1. I agree it is concerning. One thing that particularly confuses me is all the disasters like fires and floods over there and there will be even less concern over global warming. I am trying to avoid thinking about it all as it is too much.
  • He's nuts, and the people around him are grifters and fanatics, so I'm not too optimistic. I'm trying to reduce my exposure to him and people like Musk et al. It's a weird attention economy underpinning a lot of this stuff - removing myself from social media has been very helpful. I did read the news yesterday and saw a bit of the inauguration circus on TV, but I'm working hard at limiting exposure.
