Attention to topic, attention to person in communication. Balancing competing concerns.

Hi :-)

Probably a question with no "right" answer - nonetheless...

As an ASD person I can recognise that I can get so focused on topic and be somewhat insistent on making sure the "right thing" is mutually understood.  I can also (often using more deliberate effort than neurotypical people appear to find necessary) pay extra attention to the personal needs of the individual I am communicating with and factor these in (albeit sadly often as a lesser priority to the "truth" being shared)  Personally this is a lot easier if I care for the person concerned, am communicating from a position of mutually agreed social equality or indeed I am blessed to be in a social position to be able to help the other person.  On the other hand I really dislike myself for using communication strategies, conscious or otherwise ,for playing up to bosses, authority figures, ignorant so ans so's etc. and am much less likely to use strategies to make that sort of person feel better in communication.

So the question I would like to pose is whether this is a general experience for others with ASD or as the the old anarcho-syndicalist that I am jam I just personally more likely to experience such issues?

Thanks
