Kleptomania

Is there a link between this and ASD?

I know how many mental health conditions can occur in pe with ASD. Likely because of all the stress and pressure we're constantly under.

I have ASD and so does my brother. Lately I noticed he's got loads of cds and books in his room and I'm wondering if he's got kleptomania. He struggles mentally and I don't see how else he got these items.

I wasn't snooping, he asked me to get his basketball and I saw all these things in the back of his wardrobe.

He has a mental health team so I can discuss this with them but he is my only brother and I don't to drop him in to anything, more so as I might be overthinking this.

I hate being observant and overthinking things.

  • It might not be kleptomania, he might just enjoy collecting things or a refusal to throw things out.

Many people keep stuff that should have been binned and it just keeps accumulating.

There are two distinct situations here.

    1. Active collecting, where the person buys stuff because they want to add the items to their collection.
    2. Not throwing out obselete junk because they just can't or won't bin old junk.
  • Now that you mention it yes that could be as I do this. I have a collection vintage things like clothes, ww2 memorabilia, records which I keep stored in a box in my room.... to anybody else that will probably be strange.

My brain automatically always assumes the worst of things. My brother was only recently diagnosed, I need to remember that he and I are similar in a lot of ways now.
